Swimming Pool at Pacific Waves Resort, Bulacan

The Pacific Waves Resorts in Bulacan

It’s not exactly summer. Swimming pools are no longer the top pick for a weekend getaway. However, when somebody mentioned taking the kids for a pool gathering in Pacific Waves, the prospect of checking out a new resort erased all thoughts about the rainy season.

It’s surprising to hear that my companions have set up a swimming weekend date at this time of the year, in the middle of the rainy season. It’s more surprising to hear that the chosen destination is somewhere in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. Sure, there’s a lot of swimming pools in Bulacan, Amana Waterpark included, and La Mesa Dam is just around the corner. I never thought this kind of resort will be out here in the middle of nowhere — “nowhere” having a limited definition, in my book at least, of an area where we’ve never been to.

We’ve been to SM Fairview. We’ve taken the Quirino Highway from Balintawak all the way to Novaliches Bayan, through SM Fairview. But we never went past SM towards the Lagro direction. Who would have thought that Quirino Highway goes all the way to Bulacan, and would take us to Pacific Waves Resort.

It’s located in the city of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan [see brochure for more details. See map and directions. Rate and review the Pacific Waves Resort].

The resort has a hotel, a medium-sized function area, and lots of open spaces under the canopy of mango trees, perfect for corporate outings, corporate planning and other corporate events. During the time we were there, an insurance company was scheduled to be there the next day.

It also has a beautiful chapel in the middle, which makes this place perfect for secluded weddings and reception. Reserve the chapel and the resort, offer your guests the option to stay overnight at the hotel, with the swimming pool with it, and it would be a good wedding event for family and friends.

It’s a nice place for reflection, although I can’t see it as a hideway for sweethearts and lovers. This is not a place, I believe, where one will blend in the background. Maybe they intend it to be that way, for this place to be a family or corporate destination. I get the sense that it’s not a place where you check in, get lost in the environment and just mind your business.

The swimming pool is relatively nice. It has a mini-slide, sufficient to give the young ones somewhere to burn their energy, if they haven’t done that at the kiddie pool. The main pool has a singular, huge fountain that sprays across the pool. There’s no wave pool or extensive water fun.

If I have my way, I’d address two things at the swimming pool area. One, I’d deal with the mosquitos. At this time when the dengue scare is everywhere, getting rid of the mosquitos at the cottages and areas surrounding the pool would be a major concern, especially when a lot of kids are here. Two, I’d raise the roof of the cottages. It makes me feel claustrophobic, the low ceiling traps the heat, and gives a lot of area for the mosquitos to hang around. But, hey, that’s just me.

The way I see it, they’re trying to package this as a above-the-middle destination resort. The place looks that way and it’s trying to feel that way. The service and the ambiance have a lot of room for improvement. It recently opened, so there’s the learning curve is probably on its way. Let’s see in the months to come.
