Best of Both Worlds at El Nido, Palawan: Photo of the Day

The natural beauty of the Philippines makes us giddy, every time — a feeling, we’re sure, is shared by other wanderers. The thought of hogging the richness of the scene all to ourselves never entered our restless brains; more of “we wish our photos can do justice to the view so others can also see how amazing the Philippines is.” This, in the first place, is the reason for the creation and existence of this blog. This is also the reason why we’ve decided to have Photos of the Day, simply because each traveler has a unique view of the country’s beauty, like this awesome shot by charlynfaith (check her Instagram account, @peytfull, for more beautiful photos). We can only imagine the utter fun of enjoying both worlds above ground and underwater, in El Nido, Palawan. Amazing. Beautifully amazing. Click the photo to enlarge. Photo of the Day: Flying Turtles of Moalboal

Turtles can fly, said the guys who took this photo. And we believe them. Swimming, after all, is simply flying — in water. It’s all about perspective, really, in the same way that aircraft landing is simply a controlled manner of falling back to earth. It’s awesome to see these majestic creatures, these sea turtles, gracefully flying uderwater in a manner totally opposite to how clumsy they are on land. The guys who took this awesome shot, Turtle Bay Dive Resort (check their Instagram account, @turtlebaydiveresort), should know. They have a dive resort in Moalboal (perhaps we’ll see you one of these days in Moalboal, lads?). We know the turtles of Apo Island Marine Reserve, but, in all honesty, we didn’t know there are turtles in Moalboal, a town south of Cebu City; only goes to show that we need to push our boundaries and check the underwater scene. Diving is fun, we’ve heard that before and we’re trying to convince ourselves about that, but Steven Spielberg and his Jaws really ruined it for us. We’ll muster enough courage one of these days. Click the photo to enlarge: Continue reading Photo of the Day: Flying Turtles of Moalboal

Photo of the Day: The Underwater Wall

We admire the brave souls who have the courage to face the deep sea and everything that lurks in its darkness. Ok, we’re exagerrating, we know, probably a result of watching too much suspense movies with the ocean/sea as the backdrop. We’re fish out of water, so to speak, when it comes to diving. But we have lots of friends who go diving and we’ve seen countless photos/videos showing the sheer beauty of underwater life. Take, for instance, this photo by Anna Arancon-Milan (annaamilan) — a digital marketer, ocean lover and smile advocate — of a freediver (your husband, Anna?) at the Barracuda Lake in Coron, Palawan. Gorgeous view, don’t you agree? Click to enlarge the photo: Continue reading Photo of the Day: The Underwater Wall

Photo of the Day: Sardine Run

We remember a movie called “Chicken Run.” It’s a movie about, well, a bunch of chickens. Just recently, on the other hand, we came across a photo of Mary Tariman (miri020988) which she says involves a “sardine run.” It’s a photo of, well, sardines. And Mary trying to run, er, swim after them. Sardines, of course, swim. They don’t really run. Whoever coined the term “sardine run” must have a healthy sense of humor. Or maybe because the billions of sardines involved in a sardine run, associated with the migration of sardines in southern Africa, look like a huge mass of something running when viewed up in the air. We’re not really sure. We’re sure, however, that Mary was freediving in Moalboal (Cebu) when she had her version of running, er, swimming after a school of sardines (but only after taking a selfie). Love it! Here’s the cool photo (click to enlarge): Continue reading Photo of the Day: Sardine Run

Photo of the Day: Anilao Stroll

We don’t know why JohnJohnJohn (johnnylegendary) would want to say his name not only once, not only twice, but thrice. We also don’t know why he’d do the same thing for ManilaManilaManila and HolaHolaHola. We can tell you, however, why we whispered WowWowWow when we saw his photo while taking a leisurely stroll in Anilao, Batangas. The reason? That stroll is simply amazing. Yep, that’s how they take a stroll in Anilao, a diving haven near Manila. No amount of catwalk walk (uhm, how else can you say that?) can surpass how cool the Anilao stroll is. The only way you can “out-cool” this stroll is to take a stroll underwater — freediving — in one of the best diving paradise in the world, the Philippines. No need to do it for 5 minutes, like the Badjao of the southern Philippines. Here, look at his photo (click photo to enlarge): Continue reading Photo of the Day: Anilao Stroll

Photo of the Day: Freedivers and Mermaids

It is said that mankind knows more about the outer space than earth’s ocean. Perhaps this mystery is the reason why we love images of the underwater world. Just the images, though, because we can’t really venture much below surface. Not with scuba diving; much more with free diving. Four seconds or so after submerging, the gag reflex takes over. We can never be graceful underwater, we thought. That’s why we remain in awe with beautiful sea photos like this graceful freedive in Palawan‘s Siete Pecados — courtesy of the lovely Ferina Santos (ferinasantos), a surfer and a diver (and, judging by the ease by which she glides underwater, perhaps a mermaid). Here’s the photo (click photo to enlarge): Continue reading Photo of the Day: Freedivers and Mermaids
