Go Shower in Tangadan Falls (San Gabriel, La Union): Photo of the Day

How’s your shower this morning? Refreshing? Got one of those showerheads with power nozzles that massage your scalp while you rinse your hair? We don’t have one. We have something even better. And it’s way much cheaper, and way so much more fun, than ’em showerheads. It’s called Tangadan Falls, just one of the beautiful waterfalls you’ll find in the Philippines. Tangadan Falls is located in the town of San Gabriel, La Union, which brings in the awesome bonus of being a few minutes away from the surf scene of the north, San Juan, La Union (just have to add that it one of our favorite spot, Kahuna). It’s like hitting two birds with one stone. Want to see our shower? Here’s a photo courtesy of Jan Gomez Villanueva (check his Instagram acount, @jan_gv). Click the photo to enlarge. Palm Beach Resort (San Juan, Batangas)

The drive is long. The road from Manila to San Juan, Batangas, through the SLEX and Star Tollway, may be smooth, thankfully, but it’s still a long drive. And it’s not surprising to doubt if, at the final stretch through that quiet cemetery, the narrow and unpaved road leads anywhere good. But there it waits, that oasis of serenity called Palm Beach Resort. Continue reading Palm Beach Resort (San Juan, Batangas)

Virgin Beach Resort (San Juan, Batangas)

For a hungry stomach on a road trip to the well-known stretch of beach in Laiya, Batangas, there’s one important thing to remember — it’s difficult to find a good place to eat in San Juan or along the entire stretch up to the main row of beach resorts. The first pick, and it turned out great (thank you, food gods), is the Virgin Beach Resort (San Juan, Batangas). Continue reading Virgin Beach Resort (San Juan, Batangas)

Beach Life in Palm Beach Resort (Laiya, Batangas)

The name of the resort, Palm Beach Resort, tells us that this place should have a nice beach and there should be a lot of palm trees. Found in Laiya (San Juan, Batangas), this resort — with the help of the low tide — revealed something else. Totally unexpected. And puzzling. Allow us to tell you why the title of this post is “beach life.” Continue reading Beach Life in Palm Beach Resort (Laiya, Batangas)

Balai sa San Juan Resort in Laiya, Batangas

Before reaching the main cluster of beach resorts along Laiya in San Juan, Batangas, a strategically placed arrow points to where Balai San Juan Resort is supposed to be. Hundreds of meters from the main road, through unpaved, tight twists and turns, lies a resort that appeals to those who prefer rugged nature and black sand. Cool Surfer Girl at the Surfing Capital of the North (San Juan, La Union)

Summer is fast approaching. The sleepy sun is slowly emerging from the horizon in San Juan Beach. While others were still deep in slumber, she was getting ready to start surfing practice and stretching on the beach, right at that point where the sea water heaves its last sigh as it gives up its eternal quest to embrace the whole beach. Surf Camp at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa (San Juan, La Union)

“When He closes a door, He opens a window,” goes a Christian teaching. And to paraphrase what someone said — that we often meet our destiny in the road we take to avoid it — we often discover something spectacular when don’t get what we want. To be concrete about it, we preferred Thunderbird Resort in Poro Point, La Union. It was fully-booked and we were able to catch the last few remaining slots at Kahuna Beach Resort and Spa found at the town of San Juan, La Union.
