Why It’s Called Puting Buhangin Beach, Palawan: Photo of the Day

It’s not unusual to encounter a name that leaves not much to one’s imagination, like Puting Buhangin Beach or Isla Puting Buhangin in Brgy. Mangingisda, Puerto Princessa, Palawan (not to be confused with the Puting Buhangin Beach in Pagbilao, Quezon). You don’t really have to go far from the city, the usual jump-off point to the Puerto Princesa Underground River or Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (which has Honday Bay, anyway), to enjoy a gorgeous beach (El Nido is around 7 hours ride from Puerto Princessa). Puting Buhangin Beach is just across Puerto Princessa Bay, around 30 minutes by banca. Puerto Princesa Underground River among the New 7 Wonders of Nature

It’s official (well, sort of, since the organizers already made an announcement, with the caveat that it’s subject to verification and confirmation, that Puerto Princesa Underground River is among the New 7 Wonders of Nature. After the end of voting on 11 November 2011, the New 7 Wonders of Nature announced that 7 out of 28 made it to the final list.
