Boac Church of Marinduque: Philippine Travel Stories

The town of Boac, province of Marinduque, is well-known for the Moriones Festival. It’s also the site of the Boac Church (Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception), although the marker on the church indicates that the cathedral was dedicated to the “Mother of Instant Mercy” (Pronto Socorro). The cross was brought to Marinduque in 1579, way before the construction of the cathedral in 1792. The Diocese of Boac was created in 1978. 20 Favorite Boat Shots: Philippine Travel Stories

The Philippines is an archipelago consisting of 7,000+ islands. The primary mode of transportation between islands is the boat. It can be called by different names: banca or paraw, and, to the less fortunate, speedboat, ship or yacht. But we’re not having this list to feature the most expensive boats. We looked at the photos and observed that there’s just so many lovely VisitPinas-tagged shots of boats, with the beautiful Philippine scenery in full display. 5 Traits of a Traveler: Philippine Travel Stories

A traveler, by definition, is a person who moves around from place to place. A wanderer, on the other hand, is a traveler who wanders aimlessly. Beyond these definitions, we go by what Gandalf said, that “not all those who wander are lost.” For those who seek travel with a purpose — regardless of whether the purpose is with the act of traveling itself, or of the destination, or of both the journey and the destination — traveling, or wandering, requires a set of emotional, mental and physical skill sets. Let’s tackle five of those. Continue reading 5 Traits of a Traveler: Philippine Travel Stories

The Haunted Old Diplomat Hotel in Baguio City: Philippine Travel Stories

“Art is never finished, only abandoned.” This is the description of the Old Diplomat Hotel in Baguio City, by MJ (check her Instagram account, @thebabaenggala), who tagged us with this photo. That’s one way of looking at this storied structure. There is, however, other versions of the story. Continue reading The Haunted Old Diplomat Hotel in Baguio City: Philippine Travel Stories

The Brotherhood of the Traveling Abs: Philippine Travel Stories

Because we’ve featured women and the sleepy bikini, and because we want to be fair, we’ve decided to showcase the Philippine travel sites through the eyes, or lens, or contour, of the men’s abs. We’re not exactly looking for a six-pack, although we certainly won’t mind featuring one, but let’s just say we’ll have the proud dad-bods in a separate post (our crew will be the first to submit their photos for the dad-bods). For now, let’s have the VisitPinas-tagged traveling abs in Instagram. Continue reading The Brotherhood of the Traveling Abs: Philippine Travel Stories

Mosques of the Philippines: Travel Stories

Religion is deeply rooted in the Philippines. Different religions, including Christianity and Islam, co-exist in this country. The mosques of our Muslim brothers and sisters , in addition to their religious significance, are architectural marvels that have become tourist attractions. Let us feature these mosques, as seen through the VisitPinas-tagged photos in Instagram. Continue reading Mosques of the Philippines: Travel Stories

A Walk in the Clouds: Philippine Travel Stories

We love mountaineering photos, specially those with clouds at the summit (just to be clear, mountaineering photos, not mountaineering itself). We’ve featured a lot of these photos, yet there’s still a lot of these cloud-covered mountain summit photos that are VisitPinas-tagged. What to do? It feels like a sin not to feature these beautiful photos. Let’s have a new post just for these VisitPinas-tagged photos in Instagram. Continue reading A Walk in the Clouds: Philippine Travel Stories

Sleepy in Bikini: Philippine Beach Travel Stories

Should we feature bikini photos? That’s our internal topic of debate over the entire weekend (feel free to weigh in through the comment section below). For one, a bikini is just another piece of clothing, common in a tropical country like the Philippines. Two, the Philippines has hundreds of beautiful beaches, many among the best in the world, and a bikini is a perfect wear on a sunny beach to get a good tan. Three, these Philippine travelers are comfortable with their bodies and we can’t act like prudes in this modern day. There other reasons, for or against, thrown in the ring, but the resolution is obviously to feature the bikini-inspired VisitPinas-tagged photos in Instagram.
