Photo of the Day: The Flower of Tarak Ridge (Mariveles, Bataan)

This lovely photo struck us with the force of a thousand long hair strands. It reminds us of the animated movie Tangled, the updated story of Rapunzel as told by Disney Animation. It’s about a princess who was abducted by a witch but, in the end, met his prince and lived happily ever after. The power of regeneration, the fountain of youth as it were, came from a flower that fell from the sky onto a hidden portion of the mountain. Powerful flower, really. Now, look at this awesome photo again. What do you see? Yes, you see the majestic Tarak Ridge in Mariveles, Bataan, with its fog-capped tops (incidentally, we love how the soft light highlights this lady’s strong shoulders, merging beautifully with the mountain ridges). But we’re not referring to the ridge. Look again. The lady with her mysterious face turned from the camera? Yes, that’s a lovely lady, Yesmeen Frani — a wanderer, wonderer, and student of life (check her Instagram account, @ysmnfrani). But we’re not referring to her, either. Look closer. Notice that flower on Yesmeen’s hair. Yes, that’s it. Imagine the physical exertion of climbing Tarak Ridge early in morning, reaching the summit all sweaty, yet fresh as a dew-caressed flower. A lot of people can climb a mountain. Not everyone can climb it with style and grace. Click the photo to enlarge: Continue reading Photo of the Day: The Flower of Tarak Ridge (Mariveles, Bataan)

Photo of the Day: Tarak Ridge

We love mountaintops. We have not conquered one, unfortunately, so we have to make do with — for the meantime, that is — gawking at the amazing photos of our fellow travelers. We’ve featured some of those mountaintop photos. Then there’s this photo of Tarak Ridge (Mariveles, Bataan) from Cess Catangal, who probably refers to travel, or how her significant other should get to her, when she said “by air, land and sea.” We could imagine the peace up there. It’s probably not literally peaceful, with the high wind and the sweaty exhilaration and all, but it’s like getting out of the mad world and testing the limits of your mind and body. For many, peace of mind is found in a zen garden or in meditation, but for others, peace of mind exists while extending their arms in reaching the summit and savoring the smell of contentment. We’ll go climb our own physical mountain one of these days. In the meantime, check this photo from Cess (check her Instagram account, @cesscatangal, for more awesome photos). Photo of the Day: Papaya River, Mt. Mariveles

In this modern day focused on steel and concrete monstrosities called cities, it’s refreshing to see living, breathing rivers. It may be hard to believe that one can drink fresh water direct from an actual river but we’ve stumbled into one such river — in instagram. This river, with a photo posted by arjaysalvani (he says he just “shoots wherever, whatever, whenever”), goes by a strange name — Papaya River. At first we thought he’s pulling our leg when he labelled it the Papaya River, a river which turned out to be a part of a mountaineering adventure in Mt. Mariveles (Bataan). Look at this photo (click photo to enlarge): Continue reading Photo of the Day: Papaya River, Mt. Mariveles
