Stroll Among the Clouds and Trees (Mt. Ulap, Itogon, Benguet): Photo of the Day

“Create the life you can’t wait to wake up to,” says Roanne Tañagras (check her Instagram account, @zeroaaanne, for more photos). The second part — a life that one can’t wait to wake up to — is easy as daydreaming. Anyone can imagine paradise in their minds. “Creating a life,” or making it a reality, is another story. Watching the clouds framed by pine trees on rolling hills, or mountains, takes a lot of hard work. Lilke trekking to the top of Mt. Ulap, Ampucao, Itogon, Benguet. It’s not a walk in the park, so to speak, but it’s all worth it. Amazing views and fresh air. Click the photo to enlarge. Continue reading Stroll Among the Clouds and Trees (Mt. Cloudy Mt. Ulap: Photo of the Day

Ulap, in Filipino, means cloud, so we won’t be surprised if a favorite mountaineering) destination, Mt. Ulap got its name from the blanket of clouds that cloaks the ridge, as shown in this photo from Joseph Poblete (check his Instagram acount, @sephlog). Beautiful and mysterious, isn’t it? Still, as they say about beauty, it’s something you strive for and work on. This is particularly true in mountain climbing, a sport not for the faint of heart. Mt. Ulap rises 1,846 meters in Itogon, Benguet, gauged by the Pinoy Mountaineer with a 3/9 level of difficulty. When you get fog or clouds, plus the low temperatures and strong wind in the area, you’ll probably need more than a thin yellow raincoat to keep you warm and get you going.  As Joseph puts it, using a familiar expression, #TheStruggleIsReal. Photo of the Day: Travel as a Couple (Mt. Ugo, Itogon, Benguet)

Here’s something we don’t see often enough — a banker-adventurer, like henson. Imagine the exciting possibilities! No ship going to your island-destination? Let’s have a syndicated loan and buy a ship. Kidding aside, one’s profession doesn’t really matter when it comes to travel and adventure. We all have our day jobs. Travel keeps us sane. And the beautiful part about it all? Meaningful travel need not be expensive. Looking at this shot from henson (follow his instagram account, @henson_gc), the place looks ordinary (unless, of course, you factor in the fact that it’s in Mt. Ugo, Itogon, Benguet) but I swear the captured moment elevates my blood sugar. I’ll grow diabetes if I keep looking at this couple. Incidentally, before deciding if he/she is “The One“, go travel together. Climb a mountain or go on a very long drive. Ride buses and stay in offroad hotels. Travel long enough and you’ll discover what your partner is really made of. While the Romans would say in vino veritas, we believe that in travel, may forever.
