Photo of the Day: Whitewater Rafting

The first time is usually the most memorable, right? So, when we saw the expression of Debbie Grace Andres (utopiansky, and company) in her first encounter with the white sparkles of Cagayan River, we can’t help but feature the cool photo, even if we have our own whitewater rafting photos in Cagayan de Oro City. There’s truly something extra special with a group picture. Consider utopiansky‘s photo (click to enlarge) — one crew is mightily trying to steer the raft, the rest of the members are seriously trying to paddle, but there’s one member (left side) RAISING her paddle and there’s another one (middle of raft) WITHOUT a paddle (and is he holding a camera or eating something?). We’ll never know for sure until Debbie and her crew drops by to clear the air (or, in this case, clear the water). Here’s the photo: Continue reading Photo of the Day: Whitewater Rafting

Itinerary for Cagayan de Oro, Bukidnon and Camiguin

A long weekend is coming up. For those planning to take a 4-day vacation to Cagayan de Oro — Bukidnon — Camiguin, allow us to share our itinerary. We’ve gone this route as part of our VisitPinas advocacy and, incidentally, to experience first-hand the route. This way, we’d better assist travelers over at GoTravelBliss Tours (see disclosure). Nature and Excitement at Dahilayan Eco Adventure Park (Bukidnon)

“Cagayan de Oro’s favorite destination.” This tagline appears in Dahilayan’s website, which we accessed when this article was posted. We’ve visited Dahilayan’s physical location before we’ve dropped by its website, and the experience (physical location before the website) is akin to watching a movie after reading the book (from which the movie is based). As the usual case, the movie hardly does justice to the book’s rich details and story. The website does not even come close to the beauty of Dahilayan Eco Adventure Park, which is a good thing. Allow us to tell you why. Continue reading Nature and Excitement at Dahilayan Eco Adventure Park (Bukidnon)

White Water Rafting at Cagayan de Oro

This post has gone through a number of revisions, a useless piece of information unless someone actually reads this. In a sense this is good, as nobody would notice the typos and grammatical errors in the first few drafts. No two versions were the same after the first few days of posting, though from this obvious difficulty a memorable quote came to light: “You cannot step into the same river twice.” You may not know that this is a quote from the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. You may not know its meaning. And if you’re still trying to figure out its relevance, here goes: “No two runs are the same at the CDO whitewater rafting.”

Scared to try whitewater rafting? Continue reading White Water Rafting at Cagayan de Oro

Inipit de Leche (Bulacan) and Pastel (Camiguin)

In every place you go in the Philippines, there’s bound to be a food specialty closely associated with that place. Otap and lechon of Cebu. Durian of Davao. Piyaya of Iloilo. Buko Pie on the way from Tagaytay. Binagol and moron from Tacloban. Ube jam from Baguio. Balut of Pateros. The list is endless. These food and delicacies immediately jump off your taste buds when those places are mentioned. Continue reading Inipit de Leche (Bulacan) and Pastel (Camiguin)
