Paraw, Sunset, Beach, Beauty, Boracay: Photo of the Day

We’ve featured a lot of stories and photos about the gorgeous Boracay, one of the best beaches in the world (the Philippines has more than one beach listed among the world’s best beaches, in case you want to explore more). But we’ll never get tired of admiring its beauty. We’re in awe even if we see the same views, even better if the same beauty is captured in another perspective. Like this shot of the paraw (outrigger) and the sunset of Boracay, courtesy of Emma Dougan, who is currently in the Philippines, fulfilling her dream of traveling Asia and working around the world (visit her instagram site, edougan91, for other beautiful photos). Mayon the Sexy Volcano: Photo of the Day

It’s not at all difficult to find a photo of Mt. Mayon, the world’s most perfect cone volcano found in Legaspi City, Albay. In fact, the centerpiece scene of the 2016 Miss World Philippines introduction video (watch here) is Mayon Volcano. Still, no matter how beautiful or majestic the view may be, seeing the same view every time makes it ordinary. And boring. Not Mayon Volcano, though. What keeps the view fresh, every time, is the endless angles to grab a photo, the reason why this photo by @hijo.de.ponggol (check his Instagram account for more beautiful photos), an amateur photographer, grabbed our attention. The focus, for us, is the gentle, sexy lower slope of the volcano. Yes, folks, curves can be sexy in volcanoes, or nature in general, as in women. Come to think of it, the Philippines is not only beautiful, it is abundantly sexy. Click the photo to enlarge. Continue reading Mayon the Sexy Volcano: Photo of the Day

Sampaloc Lake (San Pablo City, Laguna): Photo of the Day

It’s amazing when the Philippines looks like it’s not the Philippines. You go around the different islands of the Philippines, and there are more than 7,000 islands, and you discover that it looks like a foreign land. That’s certainly how we felt when we saw the karst landscape of Palawan. That’s the same feeling when we saw this lovely sunset photo of Sampaloc Lake in San Pablo City, province of Laguna, courtesy of Judy Talan (check her Instagram acccount, @judyeatworld, for more photos). Majestic, beautiful nature. Click the photo to enlarge:

Photo of the Day: Counting Stars at Mt. Tabayoc (Kabayan, Benguet)

A week ago, the world (uhm, the Universe rather) witnessed a rare alignment of 5 planets — Jupiter, Mars, Saturn, Venus and Mercury. We thought the aligned planets will be visible to the naked eye. We were wrong. We didn’t see any planet, although we discovered that looking up too long, in the hope of seeing those planets, would give you a painful stiff neck. It would have been cool to see those planets (with or without Pluto). Not that it’s terribly disappointing. Watching the night sky is a joy in itself, one reason why we make it a point to drive out of the city every chance we get. It’s really hard to see the stars in the city — even if the sky is clear, there’s too much distraction around, and we bet our travelling foot that you hardly remember to look up at night in order to check out the stars. It’s a different story outside the city. The stars, and all forgotten elements of nature, demand to be noticed. That’s more pronounced as you go farther away, like, say, Mt. Tabayoc in the municipality of Kabayan, Benguet. Look at this awesome shot by rhyjoe (a mechanical engineer / hiker / traveller; check his Instagram account, @rhyjoe). Just you, the post, and the stars. Lovely! Click the photo to enlarge: Continue reading Photo of the Day: Counting Stars at Mt. Tabayoc (Kabayan, Benguet)

Tribute to Miss Universe 2015, Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines (Watch)

There’s probably better tributes, existing or still to be made, about Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach. Here’s one we came across in facebook. It doesn’t really matter if there are better tributes, but we still love this one. We love the slow-mo in this video. We love the Philippine flags waving as Pia walked the stage. Made us tear up all over again. It was an extraordinary journey for Pia Wurtzbach. It was an extraordinary Miss Universe pageant that will live on as one of the most memorable. It is an extraordinary victory that made us Filipinos extremely proud of this confidently beautiful lady, Queen Pia. Long live, Queen P!
