Dining with a View in the Philippines: Photos of the Day

It’s amazing how food nowadays is enjoyed in two different levels — in the stomach and in social media. Admit it, you take a photo of your food before diving in. We also do that (in our defense, how can we post those lovely photos if we don’t snap a shot before the first bite?). Food can be an experience by itself or it can be a part of a bigger experience. Here are some of the photos we found, most tagged with #visitpinas in Instagram, of how food is enjoyed, with a view, on some random day in the Philippines. Hot Kawa Bath is Cool in Tibiao, Antique: Photo of the Day

“We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us,” goes the anonymous quote of Ronel Polinar, although it’s hard to see how he can escape the hot kawa “torture” in the Tibiao, Antique. This photo,  courtesy of Ronel Polinar (check his Instagram account, @ron_byaheron, for more photos), harkens back to the dark olden times when cannibals apparently roam the earth. Whereas the prehistoric offerings must be squirming in fear, these two gentlemen of the modern age are definitely smiling with delight inside the kawa (“cauldron”) — with fire underneath. All for fun, of course. So, next time you visit Antique, don’t forget to declare how you prefer to be “cooked” (meaning your “hot bath,” just to be clear).  Click the photo to enlarge. Photo of the Day: No Problem at Malalison Island, Antique

It’s been months since we’ve posted the last Photo of the Day and a lot has happened since then. To metion a few, we now have a Miss Universe, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, after more than 40 years, and the Christmas season has just passed. No suprise that for a lot of us, January is a difficult time, with that extra weight and all. So what better way to start the year by featuring something light — very light that it (or she) floats. On water. In paradise. Around Malalison Island, Antique. I’m talking about this awesome photo by Den Marie Balingit, who loves Pinas, she says and clearly looks like it (visit and follow her instagram account, @travelniden). I mean, wow! Just by looking at the photo, you’ll feel the gentle sting of the tropical sun on your exposed skin, the burn beautifully soothed by the rhythmic tumult of tiny cool waves that frolic on the white sand below. Anybody who consumed enough fats and calories over the holidays will definitely float, no problem. All you have to do is kick up, spread your arms, rest your head on the water, and let go of anything that burdens you. It’s paradise, you see. And we have plenty of those right here in the Philippines. So, still wonder why #ItsMoreFunInThePhilippines?
