Photo of the Day: Surfing Kinda Day (Doot Poctoy, Lanuza, Surigao)

Travel exposes the falsity in many of people’s misconceptions — from cultures, practices, places, to almost every conceivable aspect of a community’s life. We are, of course, guilty of the same sin. For instance, we’ve always believed that the surfing scene in Surigao can only be witnessed in the island of Siargao. We’re wrong. This photo by Paupau Alvarez (follow her in Instagram, @best.paupau.ever; we really don’t know who’s the photobomber, Paupau or @lenniemariee) is captioned Poctoy, Lanuza, Surigao. While the surging scene of Lanuza was started by surfers from Siargao Island, Lanuza has held up its own as an independent surfing destination. Now we know. All we have to do now is to get those chiseled bodies and that surfer vibe. See you, ladies, in one of ’em Philippine islands. Click the photo to enlarge:
