Eat anything edible. This is probably one of the tips taught in Subic jungle survival course. I can eat almost anything, except, well, many vegetables. Still, this doesn’t stop me from appreciating good food, specially those with good prices and ambiance.
- Isdaan Restaurant (Gerona, Tarlac)
[See Map: Directions on how to get there]
These are the reasons why I appreciate the Isdaan Restaurant, located in Gerona, Tarlac — a perfect spot midway to Baguio from Metro Manila, not so much in distance, but in terms of, how do I say it, level of starvation? Isdaan is a big place and this floating restaurant is just beside the road (at the left side if you’re going towards the direction of Baguio), so you won’t probably miss it. You’ll see the big Isdaan signage, as well as the big, brown fox, er, fish sculptures and Mayan-inspired statues.

- Huts and Tacsiyapo Wall at Isdaan Restaurant
Choose the single cottages in the middle of the floating restaurant, as it gives you precious space from the rest of the crowd and a great view of the plentiful fish swimming below. It’s after all a floating restaurant and there’s water under and around the cottage where you’re sitting down. You could ask for fish food and feed the fish while waiting for the food you’ve ordered. A welcome diversion for the kids.
- Tacsiyapo at Isdaan Restaurant
Visit the Tacsiyapo wall (some spell it tacsiapo), to let off steam and release stress. The projectiles come in different shapes and sizes. There are plates, cups, or even TVs that could be thrown against the wall. Try throwing a ref if you could lift it. Shouting “tacsiyapo” (which, I was told, is a local expletive) while throwing the items against the wall is supposed to make you feel better. I wouldn’t know. I didn’t try it. I’d rather use the money to buy extra rice. By the way, the fish food is free, but the plates and TV are not.
There are freebies, one kilo of fish to be exact, although we haven’t tried it because: (a) we don’t want the car to smell like a one-kilo bag of fish in the 3-hour drive back to Manila; (b) you win the prize after going through, among other obstacles, a very narrow walkway framed by fishponds on both sides and we prefer going home dry; and (c) only once did we stop at Isdaan while the sun was still up, mostly it’s night time on the way back to Manila, and it’s naturally more difficult to navigate through the obstacles when it’s dark. We heard some have tried the Isang Kilong Isda challenge and if you’re one of them, do tell us what happened through the comment section below.
- Innapoy at Isdaan Restaurant (Gerona, Tarlac)
- Pancit Canton at Isdaan Restaurant
- Sinigang na Baboy at Isdaan Restaurant
Now, let’s get back to the food. We had pork spare ribs, sinigang na hipon sa buho (cooked in bamboo) and innapoy (stuffed native rice rolls, which looks pretty much like the regular suman, except that the innapoy is a complete meal by itself). The pansit canton tastes good. There are more choices in the menu, but these are the ones we usually order every time we drop by Isdaan. That’s enough food to last you until Baguio (or Metro Manila, depending on which direction you’re going).

Isdaan is like an oasis that beckons to the hungry traveler to take a break from the long drive and enjoy good food. Or perhaps pose for a photograph with Erap. Don’t worry about the stiff guard at the entrance because he’s always asleep and he’s, well, a statue, fitting welcome for guests who go in stiff and cramped after a long drive. Enjoy!

The food is rly affordabe cause a couple of years ago my uncle treat the whole family in this restaurant about 30 ppl of my family went and it only cost about 15,000. The foood is rly good if i would rate it to 1-10, it would be definitely 10+. This restaurant is only open 7am to 12am guys. When i went there guys it was really fun, they were building some statue which is a buddha and u can make wishes in it to, this restaurant is awesome, kids can play in the restaurant to since its outdoor. Like the article in the top says its a good restaurant to go too.

GREAT FOOD BUT VERY POOR SERVICE.
My family and I have been an avid customer of this very nice restaurant. Almost every time we head north, like Baguio or Pangasinan we make sure that we have our Lunch there. The very nice prepared environment really attracts people to go and try it out. We had fun memories here with friends and Family. But when we went there yesterday (Saturday, September 11th 2010) we had a different experience. A restaurant crew wearing a white shirt approached us to have our orders taken. I even asked him to repeat our order so that it will be clear. After like 30-45 mins of waiting.. our food was served. It took so long but it worth our wait. We started eating even though the food we ordered was not complete yet (We were hungry due to our long trip from baguio). We asked for few soydishes and a spoon. Were almost dome eating the food that was served knowing that the Dish that we ordered was still in the process of cooking. But I noticed that almost an hour had past, everything had been consumed that the food that were waiting for was not served yet, even the spoon and the soydish didnt came. We called the waiter to follow it up. Then, the waiter in Yellow shirt said that the Dish that we ordered was not available. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS OF WAITING?? We went there mainly because my brother wanted and was craving for that certain dish. They could’ve told us earlier that the dish wasn’t available so we can look for something else and not expect. Later on we learned that those staff in white shirt are not supposed to take orders.. they are there to help on other things such as, ushering the guests to their seats and just help the main waiters to serve and buss out food. They also charged us the Dish that was not served and was “OUT OF STOCK” good thing that i was able to check the bill before paying. Our good memories of this restaurant faded due to this incident. It wasn’t like this before. I hope the management will do something about it. Set limitations to new crew and make sure that they attend to customers (and hopefully .. to not forget customers requested items). IMPROVE. so that the Beautiful Image of the restaurant wouldn’t be messed up because of these incidents. GOOD RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE DOES NOT ONLY MEAN THE FOOD IS GOOD BUT ALSO THE SERVICE IS VERY IMPORTANT.
mag tanong kung madali lang poh ba makita yan restaurant ninyo may mga sign ba kayo sa road malapit diyan…
what ko kasi punta diyan with may family sa b’day ko sa oct 23 nito.. from cabanatuan poh kami… padating kami from singapore waht to pass by for lunch//
hlo! we like to go there, were from talavera nueva ecija. how can we go there from our place.
CAN ANYONE GIVE ME THE EXACT ADDRESS OF THIS RESTAURANT..thanks
Nice place, medyo may kamahalan lang ang pagkain tas hindi man masarap, poor service, you have to order an hour before ka kumain kasi ang tagal bago i-hapag ang order mo, tas before ka eat you should get na your check kasi another hour bago ibigay ang bill mo.

ISDAAN IS A NICE AND COOL PLACEI ACTUALLY RECOMMEND IT………………
BUT THE TIME WE ARE THERE, WAITERS ARE NOT REALLY TRAINED FOR AT LEAST 5MNTS AND YOU STILL FEEL YOU ARE LATE………………….
