We oftentimes take for granted the wonderful things we have in the Philippines, mostly likely because of familiarity. What’s otherwise amazing becomes ordinary if people encounter it on a daily basis, so we’re not surprised to see a non-Filipino capture something that we take for granted. If we consider that it’s a bitter cold winter at the other side of the world, we begin to appreciate the perpetual summer we have in the Philippines, enjoying beer on a fine Philippine beach — among the best in the world — while basking under the balmy tropical sun. Have a hard time imagining that? Here, look at this photo by Marian Strumfa (check his Instagram acount, @marianstrumfa, for more wonderful photos). Click the photo to enlarge.
For Filipinos, on the other hand, we often begin to appreciate — and dearly long for — the beach, sand and tropical sun when we go outside the Philippines and experience snow. Sure, it’s fun the first time around, but deep snow becomes boring soon, and Filipinos will go to great lengths just to simulate a taste, in the middle of cold weather, of their tropical home. Again, can’t imagine that? Look at this photo by Mo Escobilla (check his Instagram acount, @mosescobilla, for more wonderful photos). Click the photo to enlarge.
