Pearl Farm Resort, Davao

The Pearl Farm. We’ve long wondered about this resort. Magazines and TV shows have featured this place. Images of huge white pearls being grown here wander in our minds. We thought this is one of the places we really, really want to go. Who would have thought that one day, it became a reality. One day, we were at the Pearl Farm. The first thing we discovered? There are no pearls cultured in the Pearl Farm. Continue reading Pearl Farm Resort, Davao

Leyte Landing Memorial (MacArthur Park)

Quick! Where did General Douglas MacArthur land when he returned to the Philippines to “liberate” the country from the Japanese invaders? It’s in the Imeldific island of Leyte, where a park, formerly called the MacArthur Park, was erected to commemorate the historic day. The bronze statues tower over everyone, including the larger-than-life statues of President Sergio Osmeña and General Carlos P. Romulo, who were with the landing party of Gen. MacArthur. Dragonflies

My wife woke me up early one morning. She said there are dragonflies flying outside our window. She never noticed them before, she said. I was half-asleep, having downed a couple of beers the night before with my law school blockmates. Beer is supposed to be a no-no for someone who has no more gall bladder, but how can I not drink when I rarely see my blockmates since passing the bar exams years back? Continue reading Dragonflies

Giant Lanterns of San Fernando, Pampanga

It’s a spectacle you should not miss! A showcase of Filipino ingenuity, San Fernando’s giant lanterns never fail to bedazzle the crowd! Watch twelve barangays battle it out with their 18-foot lanterns, each with at least 5,000 light bulbs, on December 16 (this was posted way back in 2006), Saturday, 7 p.m. at SM City Pampanga, City of San Fernando. Check out a previous entry on the festival here. Continue reading Giant Lanterns of San Fernando, Pampanga
