Boac Church of Marinduque: Philippine Travel Stories

The town of Boac, province of Marinduque, is well-known for the Moriones Festival. It’s also the site of the Boac Church (Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception), although the marker on the church indicates that the cathedral was dedicated to the “Mother of Instant Mercy” (Pronto Socorro). The cross was brought to Marinduque in 1579, way before the construction of the cathedral in 1792. The Diocese of Boac was created in 1978.

This post came about after observing two similar VisitPinas-tagged photos in Instagram, tagged on the same day. Here are the photos:

Sandra Lyn Nipes, visiting the centuries-old Boac Cathedral and Mahal na Birhen ng Biglang Awa, took the photo above (check her Instagram account, @jonbratpacker, for more photos).

[We are going to revise this post, adding more VisitPinas-tagged photos of Boach Church. It will be helpful if you include stories and historical tidbits in the photo caption.]
