EDSA People Power
There was an EDSA I and an EDSA II. Some say there was an “EDSA Tres”, although this is still subject to debate. Some say that the real People Power happened in EDSA I, and that EDSA II was a far cry from its predecessor. There are a number of distinctions between People Power I and People Power II. Mamou (A Home Kitchen) in Serendra, Fort Bonifacio
Of all the posts under the “Food” category, this is probably the most difficult to compose. It’s not that I’ve visited the other venues in more instances. It’s not that I’m having a mental block. Read the rest of this entry »
Kakanin Heaven at Rosalies (Bulacan)
Wow!
That’s the first word that came out of my (salivating) mouth when I stepped inside an enclosure that resembles a garage with steel grills from outside, but looks, smells and tastes like (food) heaven inside. The second word I uttered was: “Wow!” For some strange (gastronomical) reason I had the urge to dive into the sea of kakanin. If I did and got sued for it, I would definitely raise the defense of insanity brought about by sensory overload. Read the rest of this entry »
Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (Clarkfield, Pampanga)
Children, and we were all children once, most probably love balloons. There are big balloons and small ones, of widely different colors, shapes and designs. It’s no wonder that people, and that includes us, enjoy the not-so-ordinary balloons at the 14th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (Clarkfield, Pampanga). These are hot air balloons. They fly and carry passengers. They are huge. Read the rest of this entry »

Preparing tsokolate from cacao seeds is an art. My grandmother, God bless her soul, would handpick the seeds and let it dry naturally under the sun. Read the rest of this entry »
Malate Church (Manila City)

When you hear “Malate” (ma-la-teh), what first comes to mind? Maybe you got that right, but that’s not the subject matter of this post. We’re talking about the Malate Church. Read the rest of this entry »
FlapJacks at UP-AyalaLand TechonoHUB
Before anything else, allow me to apologize for the very limited number of photos posted here. I got carried away going through the menu, making our order, then attacking my corned beef breakfast at FlapJacks. We were supposed to meet at 8:30 in the morning, but then we got stuck in traffic and arrived at 9:30 — starved already. My order came in last and before I could say wait, they’ve disturbed the presentation of their food with spoons and forks. Read the rest of this entry »
Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica (Intramuros)

We’ve previously mentioned some of the old, historical churches in the Philippines. One of these churches is the Manila Metropolitan Cathedral-Basilica (also known as Basilica of the Immaculate Conception). Read the rest of this entry »
Filipinos as Tourists: Exploring the Philippines
Posted by Fred in Tips and Reminders on February 5, 2009
A total of 858,244 aliens, foreigners that is, landed on Philippine soil during the first quarter of 2008, according to a Department of Tourism (DoT) report. Koreans occupy the No. 1 rank in the number of arrivals of foreigner-tourists, something which is hard to dispute — one is likely to bump into a Korean national in his/her travels in the Philippines. Golden Sunset (Calatagan, Batangas)
Posted by Fred in Food, Places to Go on February 2, 2009
The golden-reddish sun must have thought that the one-hour waiting period was enough sacrifice for us restless travelers who consider time as gold. A precious few minutes before vanishing into the mountain range surrounding Calatagan, the heavy rain clouds that cloaked the sun for the past hour gently lifted. Read the rest of this entry »
