The holiday drought in October of 2009 must be the cause for the spike of search queries on November holidays. Is November 2 a holiday? What about November 27? Of course, there are similar questions whether October 30 or 31 have been declared as non-working holidays, but let’s take it up in a later post.
To lump all queries, even if we already have the full list of holidays for 2009, let’s have a separate list of long weekends for November 2009. Not one, not two, but three holidays in November (but only 2 long weekends). There are two holidays, so we have two long weekends, in November.
All Saints’ Day. Unfortunately for those who love holidays falling on weekdays, November 1, 2009 falls on a Sunday. Fortunately, the President added a non-working special holiday right after November 1, which means that October 31 to November 2 (Saturday to Monday) is a long weekend.
Eid’l Adha. All Saints’ Day, according to the President, is a great feast of the Christian Church. Considering that the Philippines is a multi-ethnic society, according to her, why not declare one of the two greatest feasts of Islam, Eid’l Adha, as a national holiday? So the President issued Proclamation 1808, declaring November 27-28, 2009 as a national holiday. Eid al-Adha, which marks the end of the pilgrimage or Haj for Muslims, commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son for Allah. Then Malacanang changed its mind and issues Proclamation 1808-A, declaring that Eid’l Adha is not a national holiday, but only a regional holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
Bonifacio Day. Let’s remember that we honor one of our heroes, Gat Andres Bonifacio with a holiday on his death anniversary, November 30. The second long weekend is November 28-30 (Saturday to Monday).
Most probably many have already made vacation/travel plans with November 27-28 factored in as holidays. If you’re one of them, raise your hand (and let us know through the comment section below). Update: See 2011 holidays.

John, we haven’t heard of any news that October 30 or October 31 had been declared as a holiday. As noted before, these dates mot probably won’t be declared as holidays. October 31 is a Saturday, so there’s generally no work. November 2, which is the other end of the long weekend, is an ADDITIONAL holiday already declared by Malacanang. No reason why Oct 30 would be declared a holiday.

Is November 27 & 28 a “Regular non-working holiday’? or “Special non-working holiday?” The proclamation only stated “national holiday”…What does it mean?
@ Mon, thank you. We haven’t read that, as already noted above. If anyone has information on that, or has a copy of the purported declaration, then please let everyone know. Confirmed information would be very helpful. Unless we see that proclamation or issuance, we still believe that October 30 or 31 won’t be declared a holiday.
@ MeAnn, I noted elsewhere that Proclamation only mentioned “national holiday”. Nevertheless, based on the Labor Advisory (read more here) issued by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), November 27-28 are treated as a regular non-working holiday.
I hope that November 31 woul be declared as a holiday for those of us working in private sectors who are required to work during weekends…

The Proclamation #1808 Declaring Eid’l Adha as a National Holiday. But says “WHEREAS, RA No. 9492 provides that Eid’l Adha shall be celebrated as a regiona holiday in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao”.

@ Janice, maybe there’s some ring of plausibility to what everyone had been saying about Oct 30 or 31 being declared a holiday. Just don’t keep your expectations too high, or you’ll be disappointed.
